Ok folks, Australia has it’s very own “Black Keys” with a singer who’s voice is just as soulfully smooth as Mr. Auerbach’s himself.
That band, my friends, is a group from Sydney known as “The Rubens” and this brilliant little gem is the track “My Gun”.
Hot diggity! I’m just a guy sitting here swooning over another guy’s voice. I heard this once on the radio, but just like the girl of my dreams, I had failed to catch the name and it got away from me, leaving me to seek out it’s whereabouts with nothing more than hope a hunch.
Y’know what really grinds my gears? It’s when you can’t find the song you’re looking for! And Shazaam isn’t ‘futuristic’ enough to interpret you humming the small portion of the song that you know, because I desperately tried to do that.
Anyway, while I sat at the Design Stall for O-week on campus today, the stall opposite us started playing it! So I dance-walked over to them and they told me who the band was and to check them out on Triple J Unearthed and I was like “cool” and gave them the wink and the gun fingers, pretending that I wasn’t about to explode in my pants from a euphoric overload.
Happy days! Ima be listening to this all week month! To me, finding a new band is like wearing a new pair of pants. It’s so fresh and relaxing and it just gets warmer the longer you have it on, you could have it for days…yeah…
